I am a past trainee in the Tenner lab (postdoc 2001-2006), and served on faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine and Des Moines University before returning to UCI in 2019. Much of my effort is focused on directing graduate training within the Master of Biotechnology (MSBT) program.  I am continuing my research in C1q and innate immunity/macrophage activation in collaboration with the Tenner lab, and starting new collaborative projects to investigate the influence of C1q on human iPSC-derived neuronal survival and microglial activation.

Since 2013 I have been associated with the Tenner Lab as observer and medical background contributor, and the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at UCI MIND since 2014 (Faculty). Interests include the need for a clinical trial of memantine (glutamate modulator) as a disease modifying agent for Alzheimer’s, searching for evidence that the adaptive immune system and cognitive memory might use similar V(d)J recombination to make unique antibody molecules and unique memory traces, helping to create a clinically oriented Cognitive Resource Center at UC Irvine as part of the School of Medicine, and understanding degenerative brain disease in terms of inflammation as a possible final common pathway.
